Sampan Project with Mt. Airy Boys and Girls
Club
The Sampan design was modeled after
a type common to rivers in Southeast Asia. A good example of UBI's
boat-shop-in-a-van onsite programming, The boat was designed, lofted, and
constructed in a mult-purpose rec room at the Mt. Airy Center. Brad Buxton was
greeted by eager boatbuilders every Thursday when he rolled in with a van full of tools
and materials. The building jig for this 20 footer was given a set of wheels so that
the project could be rolled out of the way at the end of the evening's work to make room
for other activities.
