By Apprentice Anthony
My name is Anthony. I go to Como Park Senior High. I love working with my hands and I love the way you can use wood to make many things. I heard about Urban Boatbuilders from a friend that worked here so I came in to volunteer and I loved it, so I applied and got hired. A typical work day starts at 3:00. I like having a required time to come in because it helps me learn time management skills for future jobs. I have made a lot of new friends and I have learnt a lot of new skills. I have learnt how make a paddle from a single piece of wood and I have learnt how install a seat on a 15 foot boat. I like the environment I get to come to everyday. I love the smell of fresh cut wood when you walk in and I get to work with a lot of my friends. I like seeing new people come in it makes me happy knowing that more youth are interested in working with boats. I wish more youth wanted to get jobs, they don’t know that you can learn a lot and you have to try something before you know if you like it or not. When my Apprenticeship is over I hope to apply to be a Youth Instructor. I love this job field too much to just leave it. I want to make as many boats as I can to the best of my abilities and make the people of the Land of 10,000 Lakes as happy as they can be with my work.
